This will resolve the window crash when attempting to connect. However, there are some other things to consider. If you do go the route of connecting to a Mac over the internet, I would recommend configuring it via ssh tunnel. This will result in some slowdown, but is necessary none-the-less. I also recommend that if you're using the limited password, at least make generate something random looking and refresh it frequently. The limited nature of this field has always been unnerving to me.
Notes and Readings:
- I am remoting into OS X 10.8 on my local network.
- I haven't been able to search yet, but it would be nice to easily measure the performance (benchmark) VNC configurations. I thought this paper was getting at that, but it would seem its sole purpose was to measure remote systems (unless my quick skim of the abstract is incorrect). I suppose they account for the lag in construction framebuffers via x11vnc lib?
